| IFOS Report 1997 Paper on Basic Phoniatric Education in the frame of ENT Training Programs (O. Ferrer Roo) The Latin American Federation of Phoniatrics, Logopedics and Audiology Societies (FLASFLA) representing Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, El Salvador and Venezuela, has always been supporting the idea of phoniatrics being independent from other specialties, but, they want to stress that they will remain loyal to the decision of the majority. As to this background, the IFOS paper seems to have caused even more mutual animosities between ENT and phoniatrics in some countries. Nevertheless, discussions are going on, and joint good will activities are being promoted to put the program into practice, an urgent need in view of considerable competition in the field of communication disorders starting out from neurosurgery, neurology, general medicine, art medicine and also from nonmedical courses training actors, teachers singers, radio and TV announcers etc. |
