Studies of medicine in Heidelberg and Berlin, 1882 doctorate,
since 1882 office as specialist for Oto-rhino-laryngology in Berlin.
Studies of music 1894 to 1897,
assistant professor of voice physiology and theory of singing at the high school of music. Ph.D. in 1900.
As from 1905, again working at Charité, at first under Passow, later with von Eicken, head of the department for the hard of hearing and the deaf at Passow’s ear clinic.
1907 foundation of the periodical „Die Stimme“.
1926 association of his department with the Gutzmann ambulatorium,
general direction (as being the older one) in 1927. Numerous publications on voice. Major work „The functional vocal fatigue of the singer, speaker and commander“, a publication on which the philosophy of the functional voice disturbances refers to this day. He established the concepts of phonasthenia and dysodia. Internationally respected e.g. as honorary member in the IALP.
Dismissal in 1933.
