Novák, Alexej Prof. MUDr., DrSc. born: December 1, 1930. After leaving examination at middle school, he studied at the Medical Faculty of Charles University in Plzen. After completion of Medical Faculty he was working four years at the ENT department at Ústí n. Orlicí.
		He was coming at the phoniatric department to professor Seeman in the year 1960. He started as an assistant, in the year 1983 he was called as associated professor, in the year 1990 as the professor for ENT and phoniatrics. He was the head of the Phoniatric Clinic of the 1st Faculty of Medicine and the Laboratory of Charles University from 1987 to 1997. His scientific work covered the whole field of phoniatrics, the main interest were the hearing disorders in children, in the last years the evaluation of the quality of the singing voice. He published about 110 scientific publications, six monographs ( Phoniatrics and Pedaudiology I - III, Handbook of audiology, Speech Development and its Disorders, Fitting of the Hearing Aids, Rehabilitative audiology for Nurses). His scientific and organizational work was evaluated in the Marquis publication „Who is Who in the Twentieth Millennium“, published in USA. He was very active in organizational work. Ten years he was a member of the board of the Czech Society for ENT, head and neck surgery, a member of the editorial board of the journal „Otorinolaryngologie a foniatrie“ and „Folia phoniatrica latina“. Twelve years he was the president of the Phoniatric Association. According to his proposal the name of Czech Phoniatric Association was changed to Czech Association for Phoniatrics and Pedaudiology. He was a member of the General Secretariat of UEP and two years president of the board of UEP, member of the I.A.L.P. board. He organized the Congress of I.A.L.P. in 1989 and the Congress of UEP in 1993.
