Studies of medicine and music (singing) in Leipzig und Berlin, ENT specialization at Charité, doctorate 1967, phoniatric specialization with Wendler.
Ph.D. thesis „Contributions the instrumental voice exploration in the phoniatric practice „ in 1984. Head of the department for phoniatrics and pedaudiology at Charité since 1996. Lectureships at both of the Musical High Schools in town.
Development of microstroboscopy, phono-pneumotachographic examinations of normal and pathological voices, spectral voice range profile measurement and voice loading tests. Therapeutical main topics: Disorders of the singers’ voice, phonosurgery.Foundation and conduction of the „Berliner gesangswissenschaftliche Tagungen“ (25 till now) and the Berlin lectures and round tables on „Disorders of the singers’ voice“. Member of numerous societies and commissions (phoniatrics, ORL, singing, music), among others on the board of the international Collegium Medicorum Theatri (CoMeT). Performing solo tenor, predominantly in the frame of church concerts.
