After ENT training in Berlin, postgraduate education in phoniatrics at the Phoniatric Department of the ENT-Clinic at Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg (with Wolfgang Pfau, (1961-62) and at the Phoniatric Clinic of the Karls-University Prague (with Miloslav Seeman, 1963).
Founding and direction of a Phoniatric Department at the ENT-Clinic Prenzlauer Berg in Berlin (1963-69), reerection and direction of the Phoniatric Department at Charité Hospital, Humboldt-University Berlin, in succession and in the tradition of the Gutzmanns’ Berlin School of Phoniatrics (1969-1995, until retirement). Associate Professor 1976, Full Professor and Chair 1982.
Scientific work mainly on voice (physiology, pathology, diagnostics, therapy including phonosurgery, altogether some 300 papers, 80 of them originals).
First author „Lehrbuch der Phoniatrie (und Pädaudiologie)“, Thieme Leipzig (1978,1987) and Thieme Stuttgart (1996); co-author, together with W. Seidner: „Die Sängerstimme“, Henschel, Berlin (1978, 1982, 1997, Spanish edition „La voz del cantante“ 1982.
Studies and lectures (ca 180 scientific, ca 100 postgraduate) in most of the European countries, USA, Japan, Australia, China, South America, Mexico).
On the Boards of national and international associations, such as Union of the European Phoniatricians (UEP), International Federation of ORL Societies (IFOS), World Voice Consortium (WVC).
