UEP Young Phoniatrician Award (YPA) 2026

The Union of European Phoniatricians (UEP) is pleased to announce the 2026 Young Phoniatrician Award (YPA), an annual award that recognizes outstanding young medical doctors in the field of phoniatrics who show promise in clinical, academic, and leadership excellence.
Building on the experience of the 2024 and 2025 cycles, the 2026 edition introduces a streamlined evaluation framework and a focused submission process designed to make the application path easier for candidates while preserving the scientific standards of the award.

Award Details
- Prize: €600 for each winner.
- Age categories (age as of 22 September 2026): Category 1 — 25–35 years; Category 2 — 36–45 years. One winner is selected from each age category.
- Award ceremony: The 2026 winners will be honored at the APLA 2027 Congress in Istanbul, Türkiye, 8–11 April 2027.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be a medical doctor (graduate of a recognized College of Medicine).
- Be currently working in a medical field related to phoniatrics (voice, swallowing, speech, hearing, or language), or holding a graduation in phoniatrics, or at least six months of documented academic phoniatrics training.
- Be an active member of the UEP.
- Belong to one of the two specified age categories (25–35 or 36–45 years, as of 22 September 2026).
- Submit all required documents in English, or with certified English translations.
Evaluation Framework
The application is scored on eight criteria:
- Academic Phoniatrics Training (completed or attending).
- EAP Phoniatrics Training Course OR European Board Exam (EBE).
- Published Research (with active DOIs).
- Awards and Patents.
- Presentations at Conferences and Meetings.
- Leadership (head / chairperson).
- Active Member of any UEP Committee.
- Personal Video.
Required Application Documents
All documents must be uploaded to your personalized Google Drive folder by 22 September 2026, 23:59 CEST. The folder is provided automatically after the Google Form is submitted.
0. Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- A PDF Curriculum Vitae, structured according to the 8 evaluation criteria. An example of a structured CV is available at this link.
- Strongly encouraged: follow the Suggested Structured CV template provided with this announcement. Uploading certificates of graduation from a medical school is mandatory.
1. Academic Phoniatrics Training
- Certificate of graduation in phoniatrics, OR a signed letter from your training supervisor stating the start and end dates of your training.
- Not accepted: certificates of short attendance courses below 6 months.
2. EAP Phoniatrics Training Course OR European Board Examination (EBE)
- Official certificate of attendance of any of the 8 past EAP Phoniatrics Training Courses, OR official EBE examination certificate.
- Not accepted: UEP congresses or other UEP-affiliated meetings are not counted.
3. Published Research
- A single structured publication list (PDF or Word document) containing, for each entry: authors, journal name, year, and a clickable DOI.
- Not accepted: PDF copies of articles are not required and not used for scoring. Articles without an active DOI will not be scored. The committee will sample-verify DOIs.
4. Awards and Patents
- PDF certificate for each award or patent.
- Not accepted: a statement inside a recommendation letter is not acceptable evidence.
5. Presentations at Conferences and Meetings
- PDF certificate that explicitly states speaker or oral presenter at an international or national congress.
- Not accepted: poster certificates, attendance certificates, and statements inside recommendation letters.
6. Leadership
- Official certificate, or letter on institutional letterhead from the relevant body, for each qualifying leadership role.
- Qualifying roles: head of a national or international society, head of a committee, head of a working group, head of a hospital division/unit or university department, course director or conference chair (full meeting), Chief Resident or Senior Trainee Representative (program- or department-elected), Coordinator of a recognized academic activity within an institution (journal club, research group, QI project).
- Not accepted: session chairs at conferences, personal letters without institutional letterhead, and claims inside recommendation letters.
7. Active UEP Committee Membership
- Letter signed by the head of the UEP committee confirming current active membership.
8. Personal Video
- A short video, maximum 1 minute, spoken in English. First 30 seconds: personal introduction. Last 30 seconds: your ideas for advancing phoniatrics globally.
- Scoring rubric: Control of English, Passion and vision for phoniatrics, Audio and video clarity.
